The Unarchiver is a handy, free replacement for the MacOS stock Archive Utility, giving you more control over how and where to compress and uncompress files. Pros Handles more formats: The Unarchiver handles dozens of formats, including a few that the Mac's Archive Utility can't, such as RAR files. You can set The Unarchiver to be the default application for any file type it supports or just drag an archived file onto The Unarchiver icon to have it uncompress the file. Lots of control: You where The Unarchiver extracts file and what happens to the archive file after you expand it (such as moving it to the Trash). You can also quickly find The Unarchiver in your Applications folder, unlike the Apple's own archive tool, which is buried in System/Library/CoreServices/Applications. Cons Not a lot of help: It's a free app, so don't expect a lot of help.

Beyond afor the app and a bit of guidance on, you are on your own. Bottom Line If you are looking for more control over archived files on your Mac, The Unarchiver is a free and useful upgrade over what MacOS provides. The Unarchiver supports more formats than I can remember. Zip, Tar, Gzip, Bzip2, 7-Zip, Rar, LhA, StuffIt, several old Amiga file and disk archives, CAB, LZX, stuff I don't even know what it is. It copies the finder file-copying/moving/deleting interface for its interface and uses the character set auto-detection code from Mozilla to auto-detect the encoding of the filenames in the archives. The Unarchiver supports split archives for certain formats, like RAR. It is built around libxad.

This is an old Amiga library for handling unpacking of archives. It supports a whole lot of formats, and I added a couple more, and bugfixed old code. I also wrote a higher-level Objective-C wrapper around it, which might be useful for other projects too (including Xee). Reply by TJLeeland on May 23, 2012 It's not an issue with Unarchiver; it's an issue with the torrent. This is one of the pitfalls of downloading warez. Some people put up fake files and password protect them.

They then ask you to go to a site (or something like this) and register to get the password. You'll either end up with tons of spam or with malware (or both). Just delete the file; it's no good. Most likely it's not even what you wanted anyhow, it's just a dummy file to get you to download it and register on their site.

You'll never actually get a password. This is just one reason that torrents are a waste of time. Full Specifications What's new in version 4.0. New icon is here. UI was given a makeover: we leveled every string of text and measured every indent.

@tweetbot for Mac keeps crashing on start-up. Log says “Thread 5 Crashed:: Dispatch queue: com.tapbots.common.image_loader”.:-/ 1:11 AM - 27 Dec. There’s been a lot of confusion over what the @twitter API changes mean to third party clients. I have an in-depth look at the changes, how they affect Tweetbot, which was updated today, and Twitterrific, and how the two apps’ approaches differ. Walter krivanek on twitter: uh oh. @tweetbot for mac.

Localizations were meticulously checked, fixed and then checked again. BTW, did you find an error? Tell our support and we'll fix it right away. Speed was improved.

Extracting Split Zipped Albums If you purchased an album from Cedille Records, you may have noticed it isn't a single file but instead are multiple split zip files. Due to the large size of some of our albums, we decided to split the files up to make the download process much more reliable and secure. You no longer have to be concerned about downloading an album with over a gigabyte (1GB+) in one single sitting and risking the download to timeout and start all over again; you can now download your album in segments at your leisure. Unfortunately, the standard unzipping application found on Windows and Mac platforms can't unzip the split files appropriately but there are free and reliable applications available to make this process a breeze. We've reviewed and used a couple of the most preferred applications and have included them below. A couple things to know:.

Download all of the split files associated with your album BEFORE attempting to unzip your file. Download each file one-at-a-time. Downloading multiple files at once could result in errors. Unzip the first split zip and the rest will unzip into a single folder. This is the file that ends in.001 or simply.zip.
